Zinc chloride is a white, crystalline or granular powder that is highly hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air). It is odourless and readily dissolves in water, forming a highly acidic solution. It can also exist in a colourless liquid form when dissolved in water.
Common uses of Zinc Chloride:
- Chemical Industry: Used as a catalyst and dehydrating agent in organic synthesis.
- Battery Production: Found in dry cell batteries as an electrolyte.
- Textile Industry: Used for mercerising cotton and manufacturing fabrics.
